6.3 Window Air Leakage

This part of the Energy Efficiency Manual presents energy conservation measures that minimize infiltration and air leakage through windows. Windows can be a major path for air leakage, especially in older buildings. Here you will learn to maintain windows effectively and install weatherstripping.

For new facilities and for major renovations, you will learn to select the most efficient types of windows. An intermediate approach is to add supplemental glazing to existing windows. This technique is effective but tricky. You will learn to do it reliably.
