Overview of ..
This part of the Energy Efficiency Manual saves energy
by eliminating air leakage or “infiltration” through
entrance doors. Air leakage wastes energy directly through the need
to condition the entering air, and also indirectly by creating discomfort
in the vicinity of the doors that motivates excessive heating of
those areas. These effects vary widely, depending on the ventilation
requirements and layout of the affected spaces.
The energy conservation measures presented here include maintenance
of doors, installing effective weatherstripping, installing reliable
door openers and closers, selecting high-efficiency doors, installing
revolving doors and vestibules where appropriate, and other activities.
