4.1 Minimizing Duration of Operation

Turning off equipment when it is not needed is the most powerful principle of energy conservation. The methods presented here limit the operation of central air conditioning systems to the times when they are needed. They include time controls, optimum-start controls, timers, motion sensors, motion detectors, and efficient use of your available staff.

All these activities involve control. They may provide large savings at modest cost. Most of them are easy to accomplish.
