2.3 Condenser and Evaporator Heat Transfer Efficiency

This part of the Energy Efficiency Manual presents energy conservation measures that reduce efficiency losses in the heat exchangers of cooling systems. The most important regular maintenance for your air conditioning and refrigeration equipment is to keep their tubes clean. In systems with open cooling towers, you need to clean the condenser tubes at regular intervals. Here you will learn to select the best methods, including automatic tube cleaning equipment.

Cooling tower water treatment is an essential step in keeping your chillers clean. The methods are explained here. Control of bleed from cooling towers is a commonly wastes large amounts of water. You will learn how to avoid it by installing effective bleed control.

In older water chillers, you can improve efficiency by using turbulators in the evaporator tubes to increase heat transfer. However, you have to be cautious with these. The issues are explained here.
